Hi, I live in Silverdale, Auckland and there is currently no food waste collection - so what am I meant to do with the compostable food waste bags when I have filled them and can I give them to my neighbour for his home composting - and if i do, how long will it take to break down, thanks.

Hi James,
Good question, if you don't have your own compost bin and your neighbour is fine with this, then yes they will break down. This can vary from 90-180 days (sometime a lot less) it just depends on the conditions such as; they type of compost bin, heat and microbes etc.
I would recommend (if you can) getting a compost bin as your rubbish can reduce by up to half by having one and keeps waste out of landfill. Hope this helps!
